Trạng từ liên kết (Conjunctive adverbs)
Trạng từ liên kết là những trạng từ dùng để nối những ý tưởng, những mệnh đề trong một đoạn văn.
Yet / but still: Hai trạng từ này được dùng để nối những ý trái ngược nhau
Haven’t you finished that work yet? Come on. Get a move on! (Bạn chưa hoàn thành công việc đó à? Tiếp tục đi. Hãy xúc tiến nhanh lên!)
As well / too: Hai trạng từ này được dùng như là những trạng từ liên kết với ý nghĩa là cũng, thêm vào đó là.
This T-shirt is too small for me. I need a larger size. (Chiếc áo phông này nhỏ quá. Tôi muốn một chiếc cỡ lớn hơn.)
However / nevertheless: tuy nhiên, nhấn mạnh sự đối lập
He always remains cheerful. But his life has been beset by constant illness, nevertheless (Anh ấy vẫn luôn luôn vui vẻ. Mặc dù cuộc sống của anh ấy luôn luôn bị bệnh tật vây quanh.)
Whereas / while: trong khi
Some of the studies show positive results, whereas others do not (một số nghiên cứu chỉ ra kết quả khả quan trong khi những nghiên cứu khác thì không).
Ngoài những trạng từ liên kết phổ biến đó, một số trạng từ liên kết khác: accordingly, furthermore, moreover, similarly, also, hence, namely, still, anyway, then, besides, incidentally, next, thereafter, certainly, indeed, nonetheless, therefore, consequently, instead, now, thus, finally, likewise, otherwise, undoubtedly, further, meanwhile.
